Hattiloo Theatre is one of few free-standing, independent Black theaters in America. The company honors its responsibility to celebrate the cultural contributions Blacks have made to the nation's cultural canon by producing plays by Black playwrights and showcasing the talents of Black performers in non-Black works. While Hattiloo identifies itself as a Black repertory, many of its plays have multiracial casts and production teams.
