The Ultimate Memphis Patio List: 100+ Places To Eat and Drink Outside

The Ultimate Memphis Patio List: 100+ Places To Eat and Drink Outside

I’ve created this based on older posts herehere, and here, and more I added in March 2017. While those other blog posts give a bit more commentary on the patios and have more pictures, this post you’re reading right now is meant to be more of a big reference list.

I have added *dog friendly if the restaurants allowed leashed dogs on their patios. Some of these patios are big, some are tiny, some are just table or two, some are covered or partially enclosed, and some are not. I can’t control when a restaurant decides to open their patio or not, so call ahead if you have a doubt!

Schweinehaus has new menu, keeps name

Schweinehaus has new menu, keeps name

No need to change the name as the formerly German Schweinehaus in Overton Square has changed to a barbecue restaurant. After all, it already means "pig house," says chef/owner David Scott Walker.

Schweinehaus opened in 2014 in the former Paulette's space at 2110 Madison, offering communal seating in a German beer hall atmosphere. Shortly after opening Walker began adding daily specials that often had nothing to do with German food to the menu, and frequently fired up the grills at night.

He says that people want barbecue back in Overton Square and he's happy to oblige. He'll keep the burger, the BLT made from house-smoked bacon and add brisket, pulled pork, ribs, barbecue chicken and turkey.

Schweinehaus is open Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m.-1 a.m., Friday 11 a.m.-2 a.m., and serves brunch on Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m.-3 p.m. as well as dinner 3 p.m.-1 a.m. Call 901-347-3060 for more information.

Schweinehaus Changes Focus to Barbecue

Schweinehaus Changes Focus to Barbecue

Schweinehaus is now Schweinehaus BBQ.

The changeover in menu from German-fare to full-on barbecue began two weeks ago, says owner David Walker.

"German food was a tough sell," Walker says. "And to be honest, it wasn't a passion of mine. Barbecue is."

For a more barbecue ambience, Walker says they're bringing in neon signs, maybe some decorative pigs. But the place will still be a German beer hall. "It fits pretty well, believe or not," he says.

As for the menu, Walker says Sweinehaus' ribs "stack up to some of the best in the city." They offer pulled pork and chicken, brisket, and smoked turkey breasts. German holdovers include the pretzels and the chicken schnitzel.

Schweinehaus Trades Bavarian Fare for Barbecue

German-themed restaurant Schweinehaus is taking its menu in a new direction: barbecue.

The Overton Square eatery – which has appended its name to Schweinehaus BBQ – issued a statement Wednesday, Nov. 16, that says diners will still find chicken schnitzel on the menu, along with pulled pork, pork ribs, beef brisket, smoked turkey and other new items.

“Since our humble beginnings, we have always used smoking as a way to express our Memphis heritage throughout our menu, but now it IS our menu,” the statement reads.

The restaurant’s four owners, all lifelong Memphians, opened Schweinhaus in 2014 in the former Paulette’s space at 2110 Madison Ave. Last month, the restaurant began teasing its new menu on social media.
