Chick-fil-a Bluff City Field Day Benefits At-Risk Youth In Mid-South

Chick-fil-a Bluff City Field Day Benefits At-Risk Youth In Mid-South

Kids and kids at heart are excited for Saturday's second Chick-fil-a Bluff City Field Day in Overton Square.

However, seeing who will benefit from the fundraiser makes the day about more than fun and games.

Proceeds from the Field Day will help two local non-profits fulfill their missions to help at-risk youth.

One such former youth is Rodney Walker. Now an adult Walker is a part-time employee at Memphis Athletic Ministries and a mentor to the kids that attend MAM.

"I see myself in some of the kids," Walker said. "Motivate them to become a better person than I was at their age and try to help them make better decisions in life."

Walker is not done being mentored himself, which is where another non-profit comes in.

My Town Miracles, started by businessman Noel Fenderson has partnered with MAM.

In addition the financial support through fundraisers like the Field Day they are hosting, MTM offers networking opportunities to guys like Rodney.

5 Things To Do This Weekend: 4/7 – 4/9

Happy Friday, Memphis! Here are the five things you won’t want to miss in Memphis this weekend. Friendly reminder that Overton Square Crawfish Festival is tomorrow (Sat. the 8th) so don’t leave your cars parked in the lots over there (they’ll get towed around the corner, don’t ask me how I know) and be prepared for the street to be blocked off all day.

Also, Memphis in May announced the Beale Street Music Fest stages and set times which you can check out here.

5. Overton Square Crawfish Festival, Overton Square, Saturday, noon – 6 p.m., free to attend, all ages
The annual Overton Square Crawfish Festival is so big that it takes over the whole square, shutting down Madison Ave. for an afternoon of eating, drinking, shopping and live music. Prices for crawfish vary.

The 9:01: Things to do in April and more

Everybody Hollerin' Crawfish: May might be for barbecue, but crawfish takes over the city each April. Personally, I can't abide them unless they're breaded and fried (too much work), but I'll eat corn, potato and sausage, have a beer, and enjoy the weather. The Overton Square Crawfish Festival is April 8. The Harbor Town Crawfish Festival is April 15. The Cooper-Young Community Farmers Market Crawfish Boil is April 22. And the Rajin' Cajun Crawfish Festival, Downtown, is April 23.
