MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - The 8th Annual Memphis Comedy Festival kicks off Thursday evening at TheatreWorks off Overton Square.
This year's lineup is packed with stand-up acts from all over the country and features headliner Dulcé Sloan from Comedy Central's “Daily Show.”
The festival takes places at four venues (TheatreWorks, P&H Cafe, The Hi-Tone, and Midtown Crossing Grill) over the next four days April 4th - 7th.
Festival president Nathan Hiller says while there are local comedians hosting shows, the out of town acts were carefully selected over the past months.
"The people that are on the shows are from all over the country, and they are people who submitted to be on the festival and so we selected the best of those people. We had over three hundred submissions to the festival this year, and we narrowed that down to under thirty people," says Hiller.
