In the past year or so, German food and sushi have found a home in Overton Square, bringing diversity to the popular area where for years burgers, pizza and gumbo have ruled. But tucked away in plain sight is a sweet little spot for curries and kormas. Golden India opened in 1997 and has been serving a lunch buffet and a large selection of dinner entrées from the same place on the south side of Madison all that while. And yet every time I go there, I walk past it before realizing I've gone too far.
Lunch is simple enough: Tandoori chicken, a couple of meat curries, vegetables, rice, daal, naan, salads, condiments and dessert, all you can eat, for $8.95. The choices aren't as abundant as you'll see at many buffets, but the food is fresh and the price is good. Deciding what to order from the extensive dinner menu is a bit more complicated, if only because it can be overwhelming.
