Overton Square, Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festivals are Enduring Rites of Spring

Bill Baker isn’t sure why he took a notion to start a crawfish festival, but 20 years later, he can say this.

“We were crazy, I guess,” he said.

But the owner of Bayou Bar & Grill and Le Chardonnay stuck with his tiny parking lot festival and last year saw more than 10,000 people turn out for the one-day celebration. On Saturday, the Overton Square Crawfish Festival marks its double-decade anniversary in an area that has seen a tremendous revitalization in recent years.
